How does the broadband comparison service work?

Looking for a great deal on your broadband?  firsthelpline.com can help by showing you different packages from the UK’s major broadband providers.  If you’re not sure of something or you’re confused by jargon, there’s plenty of help and information on the website to make sure you’re fully informed before you apply.

What broadband deal do I want?

The first step is deciding you want broadband. The next question is what you want to do with it.

Whatever you need your broadband for, there’ll be a package that suits. You should always choose a package based on what you want to do. If you just surf the internet and check emails, then you’ll need a different type of package to if you want to play games online, watch internet TV or download videos.

firsthelpline.com’s broadband comparison service lets you choose what types of broadband package you want to see, and backs it up with lots more information, such as the supplier’s service rating.  What’s more, if you find a package that suits you, you can click straight through to the supplier’s website to complete an application there and then in minutes.

The two key aspects of a broadband package are the speed and how much information your new supplier will let you download:

Broadband Speed

A web page is made up of data that is sent to your PC. The speed at which this page ‘loads’ on your PC depends on how much data is being sent, and how quickly your connection can receive it. Similarly, if you’re downloading emails or music files, then the time it takes to download depends on how big the file is and how quickly you can get it.

Broadband Download Limit

Some broadband packages have restrictions on how much data you can download each month. Download limits tend to be measured in Gigabytes (GB). A Gigabyte is a thousand Megabytes, and a byte is 8 bits!

What kind of broadband user am I?

If you think you’ll probably be a light user (someone who surfs a little or picks up occasional emails), then high download speeds or limits won’t be too useful to you, and possibly a waste of money.

A medium user might surf more regularly and download music or the occasional video clip, so a faster speed might be more desirable, and you might want to consider what download limits you need.

If you’re a heavy user who uses the internet for a variety of activities over a number of hours a day, you’ll probably want a fast connection and a high or no download limit.
