Bundled broadband

Because most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer their broadband service through a phone line into your house (either a standard BT line or a cable line), many of them have now started to offer bundled broadband deals, where if you take two or more services through them, they will give you a discount.

The obvious service that can come bundled with your broadband is a home phone package, but several providers bundle TV and now mobile phone packages in as well.

Providers that offer bundled deals range from large well-known suppliers such as Sky, Virgin Media and Talk Talk, through to medium and smaller-sized providers such as Pipex, Toucan and Direct Save Telecom.

While bundled deals offer good value for money and the convenience of a single bill, you should also consider other factors, including the contract length, their reputation for service, and whether you could get better individual packages for the same price or slightly more.

Although each service provider needs an active telephone line to make the broadband work, if you take a standalone broadband package with them rather than a bundle, the broadband package they offer won’t disrupt your existing telephone service provided by your home phone supplier, and you can use the two separately as standalone services if you want.  If you want to switch your home phone provider separately, it won’t affect your broadband, and if you want to set up broadband or switch your existing broadband provider separately, it won’t affect your home phone.
