Carrier Pre-Select phone companies

Your phone bill is split into two parts:

•    the fixed monthly charge made to you for your line rental
•    the charges made for the calls you make, which will vary according to how many calls you make, when you make them and who you make them to

Carrier Pre-Select phone companies compete on the cost of call charges, which is usually the largest part of your phone bill.  Different providers have a number of call plans that have different charges for local, national, mobile and international calls you make.

How does Carrier Pre-Select work?

If you switch to a Carrier Pre-Select phone company, your line rental remains with your existing phone provider, but your calls automatically get billed by your new provider at the lower rate, meaning you can make cheaper calls.

Can I move my new phone line to a different phone company?

If you’ve just had a BT line installed, you need to keep your line rental with them for 12 months or pay the remainder of the line rental contract to leave early.  If you’ve had an existing BT line re-activated, you need to keep the line rental with them for 3 months.  For this reason, some customers are keen to make cheaper calls but keep their line rental with their existing provider – in these cases, choosing a Carrier Pre-Select phone company is their best option.

How do I select Carrier Pre-Select phone companies when I do a price comparison?

Our home phone price calculator knows which companies offer Carrier Pre-Select, based on where you live and who your line rental is with.  You can see all home phone companies, or just filter on Carrier Pre-Select if you want cheaper calls but don’t want to move your line rental.

How do I switch to a Carrier Pre-Select phone company?

Switching to a Carrier Pre-Select phone company is easy and can all be done directly on the firsthelpline.com website.  Once you’ve compared packages from the different home phone providers and found one you like from a Carrier Pre-Select phone company, you can complete an application form online, which we’ll send over to them securely.

In less than 10 working days, your number will be transferred to your new home phone company.  You’ll still pay your old provider for your line rental, but all calls you make will automatically be billed by your new provider at a lower cost.
