Prefix phone companies

Your telephone bill is split into two parts:

•    a monthly charge for your line rental
•    a bill for your call costs based on what calls you make

Prefix phone companies let you make cheaper calls, saving money on your phone bill, while keeping your line rental with your existing provider.

How do Prefix phone companies work?

Prefix companies work by setting you up with an account.  Before making calls, you need to dial a special 4 digit number.  All calls you make this way will then automatically be routed through your Prefix phone company.  If you don’t dial the prefix number, your call will continue to be charged by your existing phone provider.

Why should I use a Prefix phone company?

If you want the flexibility of trying out a company, using a Prefix phone company might be the perfect choice for you.  Only calls made with the 4 digit number get routed through the Prefix phone company.

Prefix companies also work extremely well for people with a cable telephone line who want to save money on their calls but are stopped from using other money-saving methods such as Wholesale Line Rental or Carrier Pre-Select.

How do I select Prefix phone companies when I do a price comparison?

Our home phone price calculator knows which Prefix phone companies can be offered, based on where you live and who your line rental is with.  You can see all home phone companies, or just filter on Prefix phone companies if this is the method you want to use to save money on your phone call costs.

How do I switch to a Prefix phone company?

Switching to a Prefix phone company is easy and can all be done directly on the firsthelpline.com website.  Once you’ve compared packages from the different home phone providers and found one you like from a Prefix phone company, you can complete an application form online, which we’ll send over to them securely.

In a few days, an account will be set up with your new phone provider, and your 4 digit prefix number will be mailed to you.  You’ll still pay your old provider for your line rental and any calls you make when you don’t use the prefix number, but all calls you make with it will automatically be billed by your new provider at a lower cost.
