Why are the broadband prices you show different from other websites?

Many customers notice that the prices we show are different from the prices shown by broadband suppliers and other comparison sites.

There is a simple reason for this discrepancy.  At firsthelpline.com, we show all the hidden costs.  We believe it’s important that you know about everything you might need to pay for.

Some of the classic ways of presenting the numbers more favourably include:

1. Excluding the cost of telephone line rental:

Some companies offer broadband packages at attractive prices – without mentioning the additional cost of line rental.
At firsthelpline.com, we separate packages that only offer broadband from those that ‘bundle’ broadband in with another service like your home phone or digital TV.  The trouble is that some suppliers quote the cost of line rental because it’s included, and some don’t because it’s not.

If it is built-in or not, we make sure this cost is included one way or another for a fair comparison – after all, unless you’re planning to get satellite broadband, you’ve got to pay someone for your line rental to get broadband.

2. Excluding the cost of other bundled services:

Many suppliers are offering ‘free’ broadband.  But the unfortunate reality is that nothing is ever free.  These suppliers will only provide broadband for ‘free’ if you pay them for another service, like mobile phone or digital TV.

Again, we’ve shown the total cost of taking the package, including the minimum cost of taking a home phone service, mobile phone contract or TV package with the supplier.

3. Introductory discounts

Occasionally, suppliers will try and dazzle you with special introductory offers.  If you read the fine print though, you’ll get a true idea of the actual charges you’ll end up paying.

We’ve done the hard work for you.  When we show the different packages, we separate any discounts from the regular monthly cost.  To make it absolutely clear, we show you how much you’d pay in your first year, which includes any discounts and automatically takes them into account.

4. Signup fees and charges

Some suppliers impose one-off charges, including activation fees, modem fees, and even postage costs!  Again, we think it’s only fair that you know about these costs up front.  So, these extra charges are included in your results.

There are plenty of benefits of having broadband, and we think it’s important that you know all the facts when you’re making a decision who to go with.
