Your Current Broadband Details
To compare broadband packages you need to enter some basic details so we can show you the providers available in your area.
Your postcode and phone number
By providing your postcode and phone number, we can help determine
which broadband providers and their packages are available in your area.
Do you already have broadband?
If you already have broadband, you can still switch to another
provider if you find a better deal. To do this, you’ll need a
Migration Access Code (MAC) from your existing provider, which you then
pass on to your new provider when you switch.
Using a MAC means that you should only lose your broadband connection
for around 20 minutes or so while the transfer takes place from your
old to your new provider. If you don’t obtain a MAC from your
existing provider, you’ll need to cancel your existing service and wait
for your line to be cleared before signing up to a new provider – this
may leave you without broadband for up to a month or more.
Don’t cancel your existing service straight away either – your new
provider will manage the switch for you if you provide them with a
MAC. Once your new provider has sent you an activation letter,
then you can get in touch with your existing provider and cancel any
Direct Debits or Credit Card payments with them. If you switch
broadband provider, you won’t need to change your phone line or phone
number either.
Are you still within your broadband contract?
While some packages only need you to give the provider a month’s notice
before switching, many tie you in for 12 months (and some of the recent
packages insist on an 18 month contract). If you’re still within
contract with your existing provider, you may incur a penalty if you
switch provider. This doesn’t mean that you can’t switch if
you’re still in contract, but we recommend you read your existing
provider’s cancellation policy before switching so you know what fees
you might incur. In many cases, you’re still better off paying a
cancellation fee to get onto a better value package. Don’t forget
to get a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) from your existing provider
to make your switch easier (see above for guidance on switching with a
MAC).
